Social Design by FOSHow is the physical object created in relation to our social structure? How can physicals/aesthetics accentuate social structures? How can art then affect our social situation? Not just as a model, but also as a solution?
How is the physical object created in relation to our social structure? How can physicals/aesthetics accentuate social structures? How can art then affect our social situation? Not just as a model, but also as a solution?
All these parts are seen as agents / sub-elements (and not just as closed structures) where through an artistic process, Social Design works between aesthetic structures and social systems.
Here, the physical is the starting point for a social situation or a social situation is the starting point for an aesthetic structure.Design is the communication of the space to people and objects on site, art is the way to it; to attaining a new value between humans.
These must be the 3 most important questions my project, Social Design, works around. Through video, clothing, sculpture, design, installations, performance, workshops and temporary as well as permanent interior designs.
Up to and for part of the 1960s the great classic Utopias from the 17th and 18th centuries liberalism, capitalism, communism, fascism and derivatives of these, were still the starting point for a cultural-Darwinist faith in development. Followers imagine that one of these absolute utopias will lead to a kind of earthly paradise.

Work by Bjørn NørgaardIn the 1960s we wanted to remove the reflection in order to fuse art and reality. The art was to be the strength and the method that could further develop our society and our lives; reality became the art's material. This idea is still part of the new art, but at the same time, the art as an independent method of realisation, has to have its own laboratory. This is what we call the work.

In the 1960s we wanted to remove the reflection in order to fuse art and reality. The art was to be the strength and the method that could further develop our society and our lives; reality became the art's material. This idea is still part of the new art, but at the same time, the art as an independent method of realisation, has to have its own laboratory. This is what we call the work.
Today, we should have understood that the world is not so simply put together. Fortunately, one truth is not enough, but despite the catastrophes and suffering these ideologies have each inflicted on humans, it still carries on.
Since the 1960s, I have completed a number of action, objects, installations, sculptures and public works which must be understood in this context. Through this period I worked on a number of forms and models of realisation. One of them is the term ATYPIA, which I have used since 2004 for a number of activities, including several sculptures.
In contemporary art, the term work covers a large manifold area where the art develops new design principles independent of the ever present ruling conditions. These design principles can work retroactively on the reality from which they originated.

Then there is the instinctive reaction on the image. As a child you would like to build your entire world with wooden bricks or Lego.
Work by Pepe HeykoopThe brickseries is all about interpretation and imagination.
Work by Pepe Heykoop
The brickseries is all about interpretation and imagination.
The brickchair is inspired by a drawing from the LA artist James Gulliver Hancock. He drew - all the chairs he sat on - in a childish way. I made my interpretation on his interpretation. It is like the game where you whisper a word in the ear and you have to pass it on.
A construction makes it possible to create nearly everything you can think of. The brickchandelier is the first example of this, with a span of 2.70 meters. The "brick" becomes a new material to work with. Imagine.....

Sketches and information about the artistic process are gathered here through photographs. For example, a photo of writing on a container and marks on house walls, a print in the asphalt and a sand print in asphalt, sand and leaves rotting or textures in tree trunks.
Mona Echhoff Sørmo has worked with rugs as a solitary work and in a conceptual way in relation to each other and space. Mona Eckhoff Sørmos art is put together in a kind of ordered randomness, a mosaic where the surfaces ripple between contrasts and nuances.

Her art has a raw structure and strong contrasts and can resemble nature or elements that have been weathered by nature.
